Description

RIX STORM S6R V2 Thermal Rifle Scope

The RIX STORM S6R V2 is the 640-resolution model for hunters who want more detail and a wider view without moving to a heavy or flagship-priced thermal scope. It combines a 640 × 512 sensor, <15 mK sensitivity, a 35mm F1.0 lens, 2.5× base magnification, an integrated 2,187-yard laser rangefinder, and onboard ballistic calculation in a compact 1.16-pound package.

Choose the S6R V2 over the S3R V2 when target identification, image quality, and retaining detail during digital zoom matter more than saving $1,000.

Who Is the S6R V2 Best For?

The S6R V2 is best for coyote, hog, and predator hunters covering open pastures, mixed terrain, groups of animals, or moving targets. Its 12.5-degree horizontal field of view covers 21.9 yards at 100 yards, making it easier to locate animals and retain awareness of the surrounding area.

The 640 sensor also captures substantially more image information than the 384 model. This provides more target and background detail before zooming and produces a cleaner image when digital magnification is used.

When Is the S3R V2 the Better Value?

Skip the S6R V2 if nearly all shots are close, the animals are large and familiar, and price is the deciding factor. The RIX STORM S3R V2 provides the same rangefinder, display, weather modes, and ballistic functions for $1,000 less.

Hunters who depend on high magnification to identify animals at 500 to 800 yards should also compare larger objective lenses and true optical-zoom platforms. A 2,187-yard rangefinder does not turn any thermal scope into a 2,187-yard identification or shooting optic.

640 Resolution With <15 mK Sensitivity

The S6R V2 combines a 640 × 512 detector with published sensitivity below 15 mK. The additional sensor pixels preserve target shape and background information, while the lower NETD specification helps separate small temperature differences during humid or low-contrast conditions.

This is where the S6R V2 should earn its premium for many hunters. The benefit is not simply detecting a distant heat source. It is retaining more of the shape and scene information needed to determine what that heat source is.

Why Does the S6R V2 Start at 2.5×?

The S6R V2 and S3R V2 use the same 35mm lens, but the S6R V2 places a larger 640 sensor behind it. This creates a wider field of view and lowers the base magnification to 2.5×.

The lower number is not a downgrade. It allows the S6R V2 to show more terrain at once, which can make finding moving predators and monitoring groups of hogs easier.

The 640 sensor also gives digital zoom more image information to enlarge. Digital zoom cannot create optical detail, but the S6R V2 starts with approximately 2.9 times as many sensor pixels as the 384 model. RIX Resolution Enhancement Technology is supported at 2× digital zoom and higher.

Clearer Imaging in Difficult Weather

A lower NETD can help a thermal detector separate an animal from a background that is close in temperature. The S6R V2 has a published NETD below 15 mK and includes Sun and Rain image modes.

Rain mode changes contrast and noise reduction for humidity, mist, and rain. Sun mode is designed for clear and dry conditions.

Thermal cannot see through solid vegetation, walls, or other physical obstructions. The advantage is improved separation in low-contrast scenes—not a promise that weather or cover no longer matters.

2,187-Yard Laser Rangefinder and Ballistics

The integrated Class 1 laser rangefinder measures up to 2,000 meters or 2,187 yards in clear conditions. Published ranging accuracy is plus or minus one meter.

RIX also uses updated sensitivity and rain and fog algorithms to improve ranging reliability in difficult weather. Maximum ranging distance should not be confused with thermal detection, identification, or responsible shooting distance.

The onboard ballistic calculator combines the measured distance with a ballistic profile configured through the RIX+ app. The scope then displays suggested aiming guidance directly in the viewing screen.

Five zeroing profiles allow the scope to store settings for different rifles or ammunition. Pitch and roll indicators help the shooter monitor uphill or downhill angle and rifle cant.

Full HD AMOLED Display and Refined Reticle

The 0.49-inch 1920 × 1080 AMOLED display is paired with 52mm eye relief, a larger exit pupil, and an updated viewing design. This creates a more detailed and comfortable viewing experience than the original STORM generation.

The S6R V2 uses 0.43 MOA zeroing increments. Its refined reticle covers less of the target, providing a clearer aiming view and more precise point-of-impact control.

Nine reticle styles are available, including scalable reticles. The ninth reticle style can be customized through the RIX+ app.

Picture-in-Picture and Recoil Activated Video

Picture-in-picture mode magnifies the aiming area while the main screen retains its wider field of view.

The S6R V2 records 1744 × 1072 video and photos to 64 GB of internal storage. When enabled, Recoil Activated Video saves approximately 10 seconds before and 30 seconds after the shot.

Six color palettes are included:

  • White Hot
  • Black Hot
  • Red Hot
  • Red Monochrome
  • Green Monochrome
  • Color

Improved Rail and Rifle Fit

The V2 mounting rail is approximately half an inch higher and one inch longer than the original STORM rail. This provides more fore-and-aft adjustment on bolt-action rifles and other platforms where eye position can be difficult.

RIX also relocated the laser rangefinder module to reduce interference while cycling the bolt. Four directional controls correspond with the on-screen interface, making common functions easier to locate in darkness or while wearing gloves.

Replaceable Battery and Field-Ready Construction

The S6R V2 uses a replaceable 18650 battery and supports 5-volt USB-C external power. RIX rates one battery for up to four hours at 72°F. Temperature, Wi-Fi, recording, display settings, and other conditions can affect actual runtime, so carrying charged spare batteries is recommended.

The housing is IP67 rated, operates from -4°F to 122°F, and carries a published recoil rating of 1,000 g or 6,000 joules.
