How to Build Your Wicked Light System

One brand, three jobs — here's how the pieces fit and which light does what.

Scan Light, Gun Light, or Headlamp

Serious night hunters run lights in two roles. A scanning light — handheld or a ScanPro® headlamp — sweeps for eye reflection while an animal works the call. A gun-mounted kit like the A67iC or ShotPro™ rides your scope or Picatinny rail and finishes the job. Many start with a gun kit and add a ScanPro — the combo means you're never swinging your rifle just to look.

Pick Your Color — or Infrared

Red is the predator standard — coyotes tolerate it best and it protects your night vision. Green excels on hogs, carries farther, and cuts humidity. White is the utility and recovery color. Wicked's interchangeable LEDs run any color in one light — and the A-series Ambush® heads put three colors behind the patented center-axis selector, so you change color without losing zero.

Why Intensity Control Wins

A light that only runs full blast educates coyotes. Wicked's full-intensity-control design uses true PWM circuitry — turn the light on at any brightness, feed just enough halo to track the animal, and roll the power up only when it's time. It's the difference between a dot fading at the field edge and a dog standing in your lane at 80 yards.

Kits Arrive Hunt-Ready — and Know Your IR

Every kit includes the light, intensity-control LED, quick-detach mounts for 1" and 30mm tubes or Picatinny rails, rechargeable Li-Ion batteries, and a charger. One note on the 850nm and 940nm infrared models: IR is invisible to the naked eye — those illuminators pair with night vision or digital optics, lighting the field with a beam only your device can see.

Wicked Lights Questions, Answered

What color light is best for coyote hunting?

Red is the go-to for coyotes and predators — they tolerate it best and it preserves your natural night vision. Green runs brighter and farther and is the hog favorite; white is for recovery and utility. Wicked's interchangeable LEDs and 3-color Ambush® heads let you run whichever the night calls for.

Will a hunting light spook coyotes?

A full-power beam snapped on can. That's what Wicked's full intensity control exists for: start dim, keep the animal in the soft edge of the halo, and increase brightness gradually as it commits. Wicked's PWM circuit adjusts smoothly across the whole range without the color shift cheaper analog dimmers produce.

Do I need a gun light and a headlamp?

They do different jobs. The ScanPro® headlamp scans for eyes hands-free while you run the call; the gun-mounted kit takes over when it's time to shoot. Plenty of hunters start with one gun light kit — but the scan-plus-shoot combo is how most end up rigged.

A-series Ambush® or ShotPro™ — which gun light?

The A-series Ambush® lights (A67iC, A75iC) carry Wicked's patented center-axis multi-color head — three or four LEDs in one light, switched by knob without losing zero, with zoom/focus and full intensity control. The ShotPro™ trades color-switching for maximum reach: the Ultra-Max LED, rear-located intensity and spot-flood controls with a lock ring, and high-capacity 21700 batteries. Want color flexibility on one rifle? A-series. Stretching shots in open country? ShotPro.

Do the infrared models work without night vision?

No — 850nm and 940nm infrared light is invisible to the naked eye. IR illuminators like the W403iR and A67iR are made to pair with night vision or digital optics, where they flood the field with light only your device can see.
