The RIX STORM S3R V2 is the value-focused 384 model in the new STORM V2 lineup. It combines a 384 × 288 thermal sensor, industry-leading <15 mK sensitivity, a 35mm F1.0 lens, 3.5× base magnification, an integrated 2,187-yard laser rangefinder, and onboard ballistic calculation in a compact 1.16-pound scope.
Choose the S3R V2 when most of your hog, coyote, or predator hunting happens at normal field distances and you want ranging and ballistic features without paying for 640 resolution you may not need.

Who Is the S3R V2 Best For?
The S3R V2 is best for hog, coyote, and predator hunters who normally shoot from approximately 50 to 200 yards. Its 3.5× base magnification provides a useful starting image for feeder hunting, field edges, and other common hunting situations.
It is also a strong choice for landowners who move the scope between rifles or occasionally use it for handheld scanning. The compact housing and quick-detach Picatinny mount make the setup easier to manage than many larger thermal scopes.
When Should You Choose the S6R V2 Instead?
The S3R V2 may not be the best option when identifying small animals across open country is the hardest part of your hunt. A 384 sensor can detect heat much farther away than it can support confident identification.
The RIX STORM S6R V2 preserves more target and background detail with its 640 × 512 sensor. Hunters regularly trying to identify animals at 500 to 800 yards should also compare thermal scopes with larger lenses or true optical zoom.
<15 mK Thermal Sensitivity
NETD describes how small a temperature difference a thermal detector can separate. A lower number is generally more useful when an animal and the surrounding terrain are close in temperature.
The STORM S3R V2 has a published NETD below 15 mK. This helps preserve animal and background detail during humid, rainy, or otherwise low-contrast conditions.
Sun and Rain weather modes adjust image processing for different environments. Rain mode changes contrast and noise reduction for humidity, mist, and rain, while Sun mode is intended for dry and clear conditions.
Thermal cannot see through solid vegetation, walls, or other physical obstructions. The advantage is better image separation during difficult thermal conditions—not a promise that weather or cover no longer matters.
2,187-Yard Laser Rangefinder and Ballistics
The integrated Class 1 laser rangefinder measures up to 2,000 meters or 2,187 yards in clear conditions. Published ranging accuracy is plus or minus one meter.
RIX also uses updated rangefinder sensitivity and rain and fog algorithms to improve ranging reliability in difficult weather. Remember that maximum ranging distance is not the same as the distance at which the 384 sensor can identify an animal.
The onboard ballistic calculator combines the measured distance with a ballistic profile configured through the RIX+ app. The scope can then display suggested aiming information directly in the viewing screen.
Five zeroing profiles allow the scope to store settings for different rifles or ammunition. Pitch and roll indicators also help the shooter monitor uphill or downhill angle and rifle cant.
Full HD AMOLED Display and Improved Reticle
The upgraded 0.49-inch 1920 × 1080 AMOLED display provides more screen detail than the original STORM generation. It is paired with 52mm eye relief, a larger exit pupil, and a viewing design intended to improve comfort during longer hunts.
The S3R V2 uses fine 0.26 MOA zeroing increments. Its refined reticle covers less of the target, providing a cleaner aiming view and more precise point-of-impact adjustment.
Nine reticle styles are available, including scalable reticles. The ninth reticle style can be customized through the RIX+ app.
Picture-in-Picture and Recoil Activated Video
Picture-in-picture mode magnifies the aiming area while allowing the primary screen to retain its wider field of view.
The S3R V2 records 1744 × 1072 photos and video to 64 GB of internal storage. When enabled, Recoil Activated Video saves approximately 10 seconds before and 30 seconds after the shot.

Improved Rail and Rifle Fit
The V2 mounting rail is approximately half an inch higher and one inch longer than the original STORM rail. This provides more fore-and-aft adjustment on bolt-action rifles and other platforms where proper eye position can be difficult.
RIX also relocated the laser rangefinder module to reduce interference while cycling the bolt. Four directional controls correspond with the on-screen interface, making common functions easier to locate in darkness or while wearing gloves.
Replaceable Battery and Field-Ready Construction
The S3R V2 uses a replaceable 18650 battery and can also receive 5-volt power through USB-C. RIX rates one battery for up to four hours at 72°F. Temperature, Wi-Fi, recording, display settings, and other conditions can affect actual runtime, so carrying charged spare batteries is recommended.
The housing is IP67 rated and has an operating range of -4°F to 122°F. RIX lists a recoil rating of 1,000 g or 6,000 joules.
